This is a stand-alone mother-in-law residence which is planned to be built in a backyard of an existing single-family house.
The design utilizes the location in the backyard to provide very functional indoor and outdoor areas without compromising the privacy of both the primary residence and accessory unit. The accessory dwelling unit has a program of two bedrooms, a shared bathroom, living room, dining and kitchen with a total area of 910 square feet.
The design features an open layout for the main living area which is connected to an outdoor terrace. The open floor also has a high vaulted ceiling which extends throughout the building creating an additional loft space over the sleeping areas. The loft space can be utilized as an additional storage or flexible space.
